Juniors
The ethos of Eastbourne Downs Golf Club is to
provide a safe and enjoyable environment for
young people to learn and experience the game of
golf.
The junior section plays an active part in the
in the social and playing diary of the club,
involving the youngsters in their own junior
competitions as well as integrating them into
social competitions within the main section of
the club. Indeed a number of the current crop
have progressed to such a level that they have
recorded successes in some of the major club
competitions and also played for the clubs ‘A’
Team in the Davies & Tate Trophy.
A number Eastbourne’s finest golfers have served
their time at the Downs, from the irrepressible
Tony Teague to today’s team who are the current
Downland League champions. The junior section
can also boast the current club champion in 17
year old Chris Larkin, who sadly will be joining
the adult ranks next year. In 2006 Jon Hart
Bradley Turner and James Redmond represented
Sussex in the National Boys Championships at the
celebrated Woodhall Spa course in Lincolnshire
In 1979 Eastbourne Downs juniors started a
relationship, which few could have imagined
would still be going strong today. An exchange
with the
Jönköpings
Golfklubb
in Sweden is one of the highlights of the junior
calendar, with the junior team visiting Sweden
in the 2007 season to try and retain the Derek
Westgate Shield won in 2006 when the Swedish
club visited England, this bi-annual event is
sponsored by Caffyns Volvo.
If you are looking for a friendly club with a
challenging golf course, why not come along!
